Examples of Mockumentary Scenes - Come Fly With Me

This is a scene from the BBC mockumentary Come Fly With Me. In the scene, Chief Immigration Officer Ian Foot is investigating a passenger who has arrived from Paris. However, as is the typical convention in mockumentaries like this, he isn't very good at his job and investigates the passenger in a humorous and idiotic manner.

Examples of Mockumentary Scenes: Summer Heights High

This scene from the Australian mockumentary 'Summer Heights High' involves the drama teacher Mr. G, played by Chris Lilley, being interviewed about his procedures for evacuating the school. This scene uses typical mockumentary conventions; Mr. G is being interviewed as part of the show, and the procedures that Mr. G uses are designed to be humorous and somewhat offensive.

Examples of Mockumentary Scenes: The Office US

This is a scene from the US version of the mockumentary The Office. The scene involves the office workers learning about safety procedures in the workplace. However, in conventional mockumentary style, the training does not go smoothly. The workers get up to wacky antics while the boss is trying to be serious, and during this scene, there are a couple of moments where the characters look directly at the camera.

Mockumentary Pitch

I am working on a mockumentary which will take place in a school environment. I will also be creating a promotional poster for the show. It will focus on a supply teacher called Mark Spencer who is starting his new role at Heworth Grange Comprehensive School in Gateshead in the North-East of England. He soon finds out how difficult keeping the pupils in order at this school can be. The primary target demographic will be between the ages of 13-24, who are in school or have recently left school. Because Mr. Spencer is just starting out in teaching, I want at least a relatively young actor to portray the role in order to appeal more to the target audience. The pupils will be played by teens because of the secondary school setting. I have taken inspiration mainly from popular UK mockumentary The Office. This show also focuses on a single character with many other supporting characters interacting with him in the workplace.

A2 Practical Progression

This year, I will be progressing through the A2 segment of the Media Studies A-level course. During this course, I will be working with a partner to research several mockumentaries and using this research, film and edit our own mockumentary. I will also be looking at and researching other related forms of media as my ancillary task, such as existing mockumentaries and posters.
